5 songs which gave me goosebumps in 2021
Not all the songs you listened to this year stuck. While some may have lingered for a while as it is with trends, and faded away, some stood out, giving you that repeat play value.
There are different reasons a song catches one’s fancy — Could be the message in the song, the melodies, beat, catchy chorus, or a combination of all or some of these elements.
Here are 5 stand-out songs I listened to in 2021:
- Timaya ft Buju — Cold Outside
What drew me in here before I got to watch the music video is Timaya’s delivery on the song. The song’s got good vibes going for it.
Papi Chulo in the song’s visuals passes a chilling reminder about the dangers of substance abuse and its influences on relationships.
2. Johnny Drille — Bad Dancer
How this song did not get into Johnny’s latest album “Before We Fall Asleep” beats me. Johnny is not new to making classic romantic songs, so this should not be any much of a surprise. This guy makes it easy to fall in love with his music, only a handful of musicians have that charm.
3. Tiwa Savage ft Brandy — Somebody’s Son
The best parts for me in this song are the Yoruba-sung lines. The kind of goosebumps I get listening to it is perhaps indescribable. The song is pretty much an anthem on its own, and it’s not difficult to know why — a catchy chorus and relatable message says it all.
4. Adekunle Gold, Lucky Daye — Sinner
AG Baby’s vocals on this song blew me away. What he did with the chorus from the 2:17 time stamp in the music video may seem regular to an average listener but that was some vocal dexterity range AG took the chorus to if I could describe it like that. Beautiful delivery from AG which wifey Simi only made easier as she’s the inspiration behind the number.
5. Joeboy — Celebration
The unofficial party theme song, Joeboy’s ‘Celebration’, for a song that’s been out since over a year back did not get the desired buzz it should have been getting for the happy mood and vibes the song gives— but we are not here to argue why that is or not — It doesn’t take away the evergreen delight and beauty of this record.
